Glimpse of the memorial Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh ’s Sufi-Kabir tourism circuit is set to get a literary dimension with the development of a Rs 10.36 crore memorial and cultural complex dedicated to 16th-century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in Jais, Amethi. A 120-seat auditorium is also being developed for cultural programmes, seminars and light-and-sound shows. “Nearly 80% of the project is complete and is expected to be ready by Oct-end,” officials said on Wednesday. Officials said the project would cater not only to tourists but also to students and researchers, helping bring Jayasi’s literary contribution to younger audiences and strengthening Amethi’s place on UP’s cultural tourism map. Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said: “The initiative would preserve Jayasi’s literary legacy while strengthening the state’s Sufi-Kabir circuit and promoting its message of shared culture and harmony.

The project is being developed as an integrated centre for research, cultural interpretation and tourism, bringing together the poet’s memorial, research institute, landscaped park and visitor facilities at his birthplace. Jayasi is best known for his epic ‘ Padmavat ’. The Malik Muhammad Jayasi Research Institute is being upgraded into a modern library where students, scholars and researchers can study his life and works. The memorial and park will include murals depicting Jayasi’s life, literary journey and major works. A red sandstone memorial has already been completed, while the landscaped park will feature an open gym, walking and meditation zone, acupressure pathways, children’s play area, congregation spaces, parking and new entry gates. The development is expected to position Jais alongside destinations associated with Kabir in Varanasi and Maghar, creating a broader tourism trail around the region’s traditions of poetry, spirituality and cultural synthesis.
