Prayagraj: Travellers will soon find it easier and safer to board and alight from trains as the Prayagraj division of North Central Railway (NCR) is raising the height of 55 platforms at 39 stations. At Meja Road, work to raise the height of platforms 2 and 3 has started. Similar work is underway at platforms 3/4 of Jaswantnagar, as well as at Nib Karori and Bhongao stations. Most of the works have been targeted for completion between Nov and July 2027.
Work has already begun at several stations, while projects at others are being expedited after completion of the tender process. The project also covers stations including Maitha, Sujatpur, Ruma, Malwan, Chakeri, Karbigwan, Prempur, Rasulabad, Sirsoul, Kanchausi, Bhadan, Hathras Junction, Sasni and Manoharganj.

Railway officials said the projects are being taken up in phases to minimise disruption to regular train operations. Low platforms can make boarding and alighting difficult, particularly for elderly passengers, women and children. The gap between a train coach and a low platform can also increase the risk of passengers losing balance while getting on or off trains. The ongoing works include projects sanctioned by the Prayagraj division as well as those being executed through the Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) and Gati Shakti units. The works are expected to improve passenger movement at stations where platform levels currently create difficulties, particularly during crowded periods. Download the TOI App.
