Pipraich police in Gorakhpur apprehended two individuals late Monday night for allegedly attempting to extort money from a local resident at gunpoint. During the arrest, authorities seized a .32-bore pistol and two empty cartridges from the suspects’ possession. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding armed crime in the area.
The arrested accused were identified as Istafaq, son of Niyamad, 32, and Ramzan Ali (33), both residents of Jungle Pakdi Pandit Tola. During a search, police recovered a .32-bore pistol and two empty cartridges from them.
The accused had allegedly threatened Sandeep Nishad, a resident of Badi Retwahiya village, and demanded money from him while brandishing a firearm, according to police. Police said a case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of the suspects in Mishrauli area, a police team, led by Pipraich SHO Anup Singh and sub-inspector Shailendra Singh, conducted a late-night raid and laid a cordon around the location. The two men allegedly attempted to escape on seeing the police but were apprehended after a brief chase. Investigators are also trying to ascertain the source of the recovered weapon and whether the accused were involved in any other criminal activities.
