The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area on the night of September 22. The woman, around 24 and from Haryana’s Fatehabad, was contacted by a female acquaintance on September 20 and asked to meet CRPF personnel Mohit, who allegedly told her they would visit religious places in Amroha, according to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav. The woman met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21. On the evening of September 22, the two took her towards Hasanpur in a car and picked up UP Police sub-inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way.
All four have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” the SP said. Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the state government in a social media post and described the alleged gangrape as a “stain” on the police force. The accused have been identified as a UP Police sub-inspector and head constable posted at Hasanpur police station, and a CRPF sub-inspector and head constable. They travelled to Meerut, where CRPF head constable Lalaram Yadav allegedly joined them. The three allegedly took the woman to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road and rented two rooms. UP Police head constable Pramod allegedly arranged food and liquor for them. “Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abduction or enticement and gangrape.
