Two youths injured after a speeding car went out of control and fell about 25 feet from Murray Company Bridge in Kanpur
Police were informed around 10.30am on Sunday. Amit (25), a Railbazar resident, suffered serious injuries, while Avinash (27) sustained minor injuries. Cantt police station in charge Arvind Rai said the car was travelling from Mall Road towards Pandit Hotel when it lost control on the bridge and fell onto Cantonment road below.
With the help of local residents, police pulled the trapped occupants from the car and took them to hospital. All four airbags had deployed. The car was badly damaged. Police have begun investigating the cause of the accident. The safety railing at the accident site was broken, posing a risk for commuters. Local residents have demanded stronger safety measures. To recall, an SUV had fallen from the bridge in July. Nobody was injured. This was the second accident on the same stretch within two months.
