Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh supplied 27,407 MW of electricity on Sept 14, the highest among states that day, even as the state continued to face a shortage of 1,500-2,000 MW due to reduced coal supplies and outages at generating units, UPPCL said on Tuesday.
Maharashtra recorded the second-highest supply at 25,694 MW, according to the power corporation. UP’s demand remains close to last Sept’s peak supply of 30,625 MW. The corporation said limited power cuts of around 2,000-3,000 MW were currently being imposed during night hours. Additional chief secretary, energy, and UPPCL chairperson Ashish Kumar Goel said the situation could improve within two to three days, with around 2,200 MW expected to become available after units at Anpara-D, Harduaganj-E and Jawaharpur resume generation and coal availability improves at other plants.

UPPCL said heavy rainfall and waterlogging in coal-mining areas have disrupted coal supplies nationally, while lower wind and hydropower generation and non-availability of electricity from Nepal have added to the shortage. Limited power availability on the Indian Energy Exchange has also constrained purchases, particularly at night. Goel directed officials to maintain scheduled supply and minimise daytime shutdowns in rural areas. Download the TOI App.
