Kolkata: Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday moved the Calcutta High Court seeking restoration of his security cover, which was withdrawn after the 2026 assembly election results were declared on May 4.
The matter will be heard on Oct 6. In May 2026, Banerjee was physically attacked and pelted with stones, eggs and shoes by a mob while visiting post-poll violence victims in Sonarpur. Justice Rao directed Bhattacharjee to serve all parties and said it would be taken up among the top five matters on the list. “A representation was made. Banerjee’s counsel Ayan Bhattacharjee mentioned the matter before the single bench of Justice Krishna Rao, submitting that after the withdrawal of Z-plus security post-polls, Banerjee had faced four attacks.
