The 61-year-old actor arrived at Lincoln Center in New York with an impossibly long fishtail braid, woven with delicate pale pink ribbons that matched her ballet-inspired dress.
Rocha had reworked an existing piece from her collection for Parker, including its hand-laced, unraveling ribbons in a soft ballet pink inspired by pointe shoes, according to Vogue. Sarah Jessica Parker has never really done ordinary when it comes to fashion and beauty. And at the New York City Ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala, she once again turned heads with a look that felt straight out of a fairytale. The result? A little Rapunzel, a little ballet princess and very much Sarah Jessica Parker. it was her hair that added the fairytale touch While Parker’s sheer tulle dress by Simone Rocha was clearly designed for the ballet-themed evening. Her long fishtail braid fell down her back, with pale pink ribbon threaded through it. The ribbon ran from the dress all the way into her hairstyle, creating one continuous detail from head to toe. It was delicate without looking too polished. The braid kept its texture and length, while the ribbons gave it a soft, almost storybook feel. And against the pale tones of her outfit, the hairstyle stood out even more. Parker’s custom Simone Rocha dress was made from pale white tulle and featured layers that gave it the look of a classic ballet tutu. A white lace bralette could be seen underneath the sheer fabric, adding another layer to the look. The dress was decorated with pale pink ribbons and delicate embellishments that had an almost icy quality, bringing to mind the snowflake-like details of Swan Lake. Parker also carried a white cut-out bag and finished the look with crystal-embellished pointed-toe shoes by Roger Vivier. But the matching ribbon running from her dress into her braid was arguably the sweetest detail of the whole look. Parker isn’t a stranger to fashion, thanks in no small part to her iconic Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw. But for the ballet gala, her choice of designer had a little more thought behind it.
“I always try to wear one of the designers. My goal is to wear something that the designer is excited about and that sometimes reflects the artistry that they’ve put into conversations with the choreographer. That idea came through clearly in the final look. The dress had the softness and structure of ballet costume, while the ribbons and braid took the fantasy a step further. Parker attended the gala as founding chair of the New York City Ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala, which celebrates collaborations between the worlds of ballet and fashion while raising support for the company. She was joined by her husband, Matthew Broderick, who wore a classic black suit. Stevie Nicks was also at the event as an honorary chair, arriving in a pink gown with a dramatic cascading flower crown. But Parker had her own kind of fairytale moment. From the sheer tutu and ballet-pink ribbons to that extra-long fishtail braid, the actor showed how a beauty detail doesn’t always have to be complicated to make an entrance. Sometimes, all it takes is a very long braid and a ribbon. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test Get the latest Lifestyle News and more. Download the TOI app.
