Following the success of her Rajkumari India Tour and a sold-out show at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium, spoken-word poetry artist Nayab Midha has released Rajkumari – The Nayab Song , an official musical extension of her popular Rajkumari production.
It is a feeling and now it has a sound of its own,” says Midha. “Every woman who has ever been told to shrink herself will find a piece of her own story in this song. The bilingual track takes forward the central idea behind Rajkumari — encouraging women to own their choices, stories and sense of self-worth. the new single gives it a musical form, blending contemporary English hooks with Hindi poetry While the live production uses spoken-word poetry to communicate this message. Featuring vocals by Shruti Dhasmana, the song has been conceptualised, composed and written by Rajat Sood, with music co-composed by Metalpump. Its lyrics challenge traditional ideas around women, independence and self-expression, touching upon financial and emotional autonomy as well as the freedom to define oneself beyond stereotypes. The song also takes on the often-repeated notion of women being each other’s rivals, instead making a case for solidarity and collective empowerment. The word ‘Naayaab’, meaning rare or exceptional, also finds a place in the lyrics as a play on Midha’s name and artistic identity. “ Rajkumari has always been bigger than a show for me. The release comes after a significant run for Rajkumari , which travelled across the country and culminated in Midha headlining a sold-out show at Talkatora Stadium. A portion of the proceeds from the stadium performance was directed towards Assam flood relief and the education of underprivileged children in partnership with Initiators Of Change. With the India tour behind her, Midha is now taking Rajkumari overseas. Her North American tour is set to begin shortly, followed by a performance at London’s Soho Theatre in November. For Midha, Rajkumari – The Nayab Song appears to be the next chapter in a journey that began with spoken verse and has now found a new voice through music. Looking for trusted parenting advice?
