Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun a major overhaul of their support staff ahead of the 2027 season, parting ways with several long-serving members, including batting coach Mike Hussey and bowling coach Eric Simons . Hussey, who joined CSK as batting coach in 2018 after playing six seasons for the franchise, will not continue in the role from IPL 2027. Assistant coach Rajiv Kumar and fielding coach James Foster will also leave the backroom staff ahead of the 2027 season. Batty, 49, played nine Tests, 10 ODIs and one T20I for England. Zaheer has replaced the New Zealander as head coach, with IPL 2027 set to be his first assignment with CSK.
The Super Kings have also officially announced their decision to part ways with bowling coach Eric Simons. As reported earlier by TimesofIndia.com, former India pacer Mohit Sharma is set to join Zaheer’s support staff as the new bowling coach. The changes come weeks after the franchise appointed former India pacer Zaheer Khan as head coach, replacing Stephen Fleming. The franchise has further decided not to retain physio Tommy Simsek and strength and conditioning coach Gregory King. Meanwhile, former England spinner Gareth Batty has joined CSK as an assistant coach. He is familiar with Zaheer, having worked with him during their time at English county Worcestershire. The team’s performances led to the end of its long association with Fleming, who has since taken charge of England’s Test team.
