Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of New Zealand’s five-match T20I series against India after dislocating his right shoulder, with veteran pacer Adam Milne returning to the squad after more than a year. Mitchell Santner will continue to lead the side. The all-rounder is targeting a return for the three-match ODI series against India, which begins at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4. Milne, 34, comes back into the BlackCaps setup after last playing for New Zealand against Zimbabwe more than a year ago. He has 243 T20 appearances to his name, including 56 internationals, and adds further experience to a pace attack featuring Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy.
Head coach Rob Walter said New Zealand were disappointed by Ravindra’s setback but remained hopeful he would recover in time for the ODIs. He’s going to play a big role for us this summer, so it’s important that he doesn’t rush his rehab, but we’re optimistic he’ll be back for the ODIs,” Walter said. Ravindra suffered the shoulder injury during a promotional shoot last week and is expected to spend around six weeks in rehabilitation. “We’re gutted for Rachin. Young fast bowlers Zak Foulkes and Nathan Smith are also part of the squad, giving Santner a seven-strong pace-bowling group.
