The 2027 World Cup will have three stages before the semi-finals and final, according to an ICC release earlier this year.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will unveil the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup in Cape Town on Thursday, October 1. The World Cup will begin on October 2 next year and will conclude on November 21, 2027. Ten of the 14 teams that will take part in the tournament have secured their places as of the September 30 qualification cut-off. The tournament will begin with a Super Series involving the three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualified sides. In the semi-finals, the team finishing first in the Super 7 standings will face the fourth-placed team, while the second-placed side will take on the third-placed team.
The event will mark the one-year countdown to the tournament and will also see the release of tickets for the matches. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have received automatic berths, while eight teams have qualified based on the ICC ODI rankings. India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will join South Africa and Zimbabwe in the tournament. The remaining four spots will be decided through the Qualifiers, which are scheduled to take place early next year. They will play each other once in a round-robin format, with the top team advancing to the next stage. The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the final.
