GTA 6 could get more controversial than expected after a rating board revealed new details about the game’s adult content. The upcoming Rockstar Games title has received an 18 rating from Europe’s PEGI board, which listed several types of mature content in the game. The information points to strong violence, drug use, sexual content and other adult themes that could make GTA 6 one of Rockstar’s most talked-about games yet. PEGI’s now-pulled rating gives players a closer look at the kind of content they can expect in GTA 6. GTA 6 also contains strong sexual themes. The game is currently scheduled to launch on November 19. A hidden sex-related mini-game was discovered in the game’s code after its 2004 release, leading to major legal trouble for Rockstar.
The newly revealed details may also remind longtime GTA fans of the series’ past controversy.
The board said the game includes violence with a “high degree” of realism. PEGI said this happens often and plays an important part in the game. Players can carry cocaine and use it directly from their hand at any time, according to the rating. PEGI said the game includes nudity, sex scenes and some sexual fetishes. The rating also says players can harm domestic animals in the game. The PEGI rating comes shortly after GTA 6 received an “M for Mature” rating from the ESRB in the US. A former Rockstar developer recently discussed the “Hot Coffee” incident from GTA San Andreas.
The rating was later removed from PEGI’s website, but its details quickly spread online. Some weapons can cause very serious injuries, including detailed cases of characters being cut apart or losing body parts. The game also includes drug use. Players can take illegal drugs with other characters and can also use drugs from their own inventory. One of the details that may attract the most attention is the way cocaine is handled in the game. However, PEGI noted that animals do not show the same level of injury detail as human characters.
