Over four preseason games, Dybantsa averaged 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 43.9% from the field. He scored 11 or more every time, with two 13-point nights. Washington is 2-2 without him. The Wizards beat Milwaukee 128-116 and Chicago 124-120, then lost to Toronto 102-112 and Charlotte 103-110.
Coach Brian Keefe said Monday the forward was “progressing in a very positive way,” according to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, and more court work was expected Tuesday. He also put together a productive training camp and has worked hard to get back. Anthony Davis and Trae Young joined last season, and Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton arrived this summer to sit beside a young core. Dybantsa expects the veterans to make his transition smoother. The former BYU star now gets to test that in a real game. Now, the stakes are high; the Cavaliers are a strong team. His debut against the Cavs would be a test and fans are expecting the young star to make an impact in his first NBA game starting with this season.
Before the injury, he had been steady.
