Shams Charania has repeatedly named Thompson as Miami’s “number one priority” for outside shooting to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, and the front office reportedly held back roughly $6.5 million of its mid-level exception specifically to be ready for this exact moment.
