The former NFL superstar appeared in a Miami courtroom on Friday and pleaded guilty to a reduced charge connected to the 2025 shooting incident that once threatened to land him behind bars for decades. Instead of facing a lengthy prison sentence, Brown, 38, was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm. The legal trouble dates back to May 16, 2025, when Brown was involved in an altercation outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami. Brown spent 12 seasons in the NFL, becoming one of the league’s most recognizable wide receivers. He enjoyed his best years with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl alongside Tom Brady during the 2020 season.

“My client was facing 30 years in prison with a 20-year minimum mandatory, and he was given an offer he just couldn’t refuse,” Eiglarsh said after the hearing. Outside the courthouse, the former wide receiver thanked God and said he wanted to “get back to life” and his family. Brown allegedly grabbed a handgun from a security staffer after getting into a fistfight with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, according to police and the arrest warrant.

Antonio Brown can finally put one major legal headache behind him. But the outcome was considerably different from what many might have expected when the case first made headlines. He was accused of firing two shots at the man, with one bullet reportedly grazing Nantambu’s neck.

The alleged victim had also previously said that he forgave Brown and did not want to cooperate with law enforcement. Brown, however, maintained that he was defending himself. He claimed that he was being attacked and that people were attempting to steal his jewelry. His legal team also relied on Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, arguing that Brown believed he was protecting himself from an attack. Prosecutor Howard Rosen explained during Friday’s hearing that there were questions about whether Brown actually intended to shoot Nantambu, who had reportedly been walking away from the altercation when the shots were fired.
