A customer named “Najee Simon” wrote, “Disappointed. The restaurant offers customers an authentic taste of homemade soul food and prides itself on using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create the flavors its customers crave. Dine-in and food delivery are both available. Some customers reportedly shared their experiences in the Google Reviews section. One review is only three months old. Disgusted. Very upset.
The most recent 1-star review, which is just days old, is from a Local Guide-certified customer named Angel Jones, who visited the restaurant but did not have a pleasant experience. The restaurant’s official website says it’s open until 9 PM, but when Jones arrived, it was closed. The restaurant’s front door showed closing hours of 8 PM.
Because that’s exactly where it belonged!!, i usually don’t do this, but I left it on the counter for them to dispose of it.
The reviewer reportedly requested a refund and said the food couldn’t even be offered to a dog. Deborah lied to me told me “everything was good” However, NOTHING WAS GOOD! Further more I will stand on everything I’ve said about this deplorable place!
The Najee Simon review further mentioned a Mrs. Deborah, who apparently lied to them about Lamar Jackson’s restaurant, Play Action Soulfood And More, being good. The food was heavily spiced, and the fried ribs were oily. Yams were rock hard, among other complaints. Here’s the entire review: “Mrs. I let her know and requested a refund since I didn’t eat it and since I wouldn’t even offer it to a dog! Unknown heavy duty spices! Fried ribs sitting in a pool of oil!!!!!!!! KFC Gravy no season! Burger cheese in the box baked macaroni with juice in it, the canned greens and the super rock hard non- candied yams. With a nasty attitude! Mrs. Deborah do better. I need Lamar to reach out to me about this! Play Action Soulfood And More did not reply to this review. But the restaurant has replied to some negative reviews in the past. A review by a Local Guide-certified reviewer named Makeshia Duncan Corprew read: “3rd time giving this place a try first off the heavy black pepper use is ridiculous. The cheese that you all are using for the Mac n cheese is cheap and nasty 🤮. Lastly there’s a SPICE / SEASONING that I can’t put my finger on that you’re using please STOP IT especially on the turkey wings and gravy also rice and peas is not the same as rice and beans 🫘 😞. You’re really the only soul food restaurant in the area please do better. I’m kind of sad that I had to write this review. You all never have dessert 🧁 I’m just disappointed. You all have potential but the seasoning you’re using ruins your food. It made me vomit for the 2nd time . For the price I probably will not return. Your response proves exactly what I’m saying you all need not to be in business. Spiteful when I’m telling my truth you’re only soul food place on this area and people are going there out of desperation. We have multiple signs that say, “Please check your food before you leave. I’m sorry we couldn’t meet your expectations. But what you’ve done here is not fair to our business. Jones shared two photos of the closed restaurant, gave them a 1-star review, and justified the rating by writing, “My brother and I decided to come here this past Saturday. We drove approx 20-25 minutes and arrived around 8:00pm.
On Google it says they close at 9pm, so we made that trip for nothing. A company’s online presence is all we have to go on.
