Because they apply far beyond soccer, muhr said those lessons stood out.

“I feel lucky to have this opportunity,” Muhr said. “Regular training is showing up, getting your work done,” she said. “There are ups and downs, but these Current players always push through,” Brown said. UMKC deputy athletic director Ursula Gurney said professional mentors can give student-athletes perspectives that extend beyond university life.

Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes’ investment in the KC Current is creating an impact that reaches well beyond professional soccer. Through the club’s partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, members of the women’s soccer team recently gained direct access to professional players and the lessons that come with life at the highest level. The mentorship session with KC Current player Haley Hopkins gave the Roos a chance to ask honest questions about pressure, confidence, training and life after college. For student-athletes balancing academics with competition, the experience offered something a classroom cannot easily provide: a closer look at what it takes to build a career in sport. The KC Current has become an important part of Kansas City’s growing women’s sports scene. Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes are among the club’s ownership group, giving the Chiefs power couple a direct connection to an organisation that continues to invest in women’s soccer. Hopkins spoke about her path from youth soccer and college competition to the National Women’s Soccer League. Her advice focused on practical issues such as preparation, confidence and managing life away from the pitch. “I haven’t heard of any other program that gets to be so closely tied with another amazing program like the KC Current. It’s amazing to see the strides they make on and off the field and being able to meet them and grow alongside them is super cool. “But when players come here and talk to us, they are teaching us life lessons that go beyond the field, beyond the game and training, and that is what’s really going to stick with you after college. “Their story really inspired me.

College is such a short time, and what I learned today is really going to be valuable post-college and in life in general.
