The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0, and their star tight end isn’t just crediting new players or a fresh coaching staff. And along the way, he also revealed something about a record he didn’t even know he was chasing.
Travis Kelce has never been shy about speaking his mind, but what he said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast hit differently. “It just feels like there’s a lot more unity [this season],” Kelce said on the podcast. He’s pointing at something harder to manufacture — a feeling inside the building. “It may be just over the summer and all the acquisitions that we got, not only the players but the coaching staff too. Just in the building, the determination and the mindset, there’s a different feel from how we go to work during the week.”
During Kansas City’s 33-30 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Kelce surpassed Marshall Faulk to become the all-time NFL leader in Yards After Catch.
“Our chemistry in the locker room and on the field, and everybody is just playing off of each other and it’s a fun game when you’re doing that,” he added. “This is by far the craziest and one of the coolest accomplishments I’ve ever had,” Kelce said after his brother Jason brought it up on the podcast. “To be in the conversations with those guys, to be in that world,” he said. “Obviously I’m not saying that I’m any bit of the same player as these guys, but what I’m saying is that it’s pretty cool to be in the conversations of a stat like this.”
That’s not locker room fluff. Kelce was specific about what’s changed. New faces, yes, but more than that — a collective buy-in that seems to have reshaped how the team operates from Monday through Saturday. “When you get everybody all in on the guys next to them’s success, and playing their tail off for the men sitting next to them, it’s just so much more fun. That’s what you see right now. Buried inside all the team talk is a personal milestone worth stopping on. What makes the story even better is that he had no idea it was coming.
