How Travis Kelce’s Leawood and Ohio homes show where life goes after his NFL career (Image via Getty)
Travis Kelce signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the Chiefs in March, and the contract is built so he can leave after this season. Reports say Kelce closed on a $5.35 million Ohio lakefront estate about three weeks before he re-signed. Add the roughly $6 million Kansas mansion he already owns, and the 36-year-old looks like a player lining up where life goes after football. Kelce turns 37 on Monday. But the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and that kind of result makes any veteran count his remaining seasons. TMZ reported that Kelce bought the Bratenahl estate on March 2, months before his wedding to Taylor Swift. The Wall Street Journal said it first listed at $5.99 million. The 21,000-square-foot home, called Moyenage, was built in 1895 and sits on about 3.5 acres along Lake Erie. One count puts the value of his three homes at $12.35 million. Together with Swift’s properties, the couple’s portfolio is reportedly worth about $157 million.
Three weeks later, he re-signed with Kansas City. Kelce has not spoken publicly about why he bought the Ohio home, so the link to retirement is a reading of the timeline, not a confirmed plan.
He has not said he will. Last November, Kelce said, “I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not. The Ohio purchase says the most.
His property buying suggests he is at least preparing. Neither purchase proves anything on its own, but the timing is hard to ignore. He already holds the franchise records for catches, yards and touchdowns. ” He came back, and the same logic applies again next summer. It is a Tudor-style mansion near Cleveland, in the state where Kelce grew up. So a career after the NFL is not a money problem. It is a question of how he spends the time. New Heights, the podcast he hosts with Jason, is an obvious answer. Jason, now retired, owns a three-unit rental house in Cleveland, so Ohio real estate is already a family habit.
