Space Marine 2 has received an update — Warhammer 40,000: The wider industry impact

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has received an update. The latest update adds a one-handed Thunder Hammer, a new mode that lets players control Chaos Space Marines, and several other gameplay and cosmetic additions. The update also includes a rework to the Tactical class, a new Crucible mode with additional challenges, new weapon variants and armour pieces, and new Season Pass content.

The update is part of the game’s Year 3 content plan, which will add more weapons, Operations, and a new Apothecary class. Players can purchase the Space Wolves Champion Pack and Exorcists Chapter Pack separately or access them through Season Pass 3. The update is the first major addition in Space Marine 2’s Year 3 content roadmap.

The one-handed Thunder Hammer is available to multiple classes and offers a faster alternative to the existing two-handed version, while the new Chaos-focused mode lets players fight Tyranids, Imperial Guardsmen, and loyalist Space Marines. The update adds a one-handed Thunder Hammer usable by the Tactical, Assault, Bulwark and Techmarine classes. The weapon is faster than the two-handed Thunder Hammer and can be charged to perform area-of-effect attacks. The update also adds new options for the Power Axe and Auto Bolt Rifle, along with five cosmetic items purchasable with Accolades. The Tactical class has received a major rework to its skill tree, with changes designed to provide more build options. The class can now use the one-handed Thunder Hammer, power axe and power sword. However, equipping one of these melee weapons means players lose access to their primary weapon. A new Signature Perk replaces Signal Jammer and lets players equip the regular bolt rifle in the secondary weapon slot. Weapon progression is shared with its primary-slot version. Players looking for a more difficult experience can try the new Crucible mode. The mode introduces Penances, which are personal debuffs that make Operations more challenging. Players can activate Penances by speaking to the Company Chaplain aboard the battle barge. Completing missions while using these debuffs earns Crucible XP and progresses towards a set of Lamenters armour pieces. The update also adds a new version of the wave-based Siege mode, where players can take control of a Chaos Space Marine. The objective is to fight Tyranids, Imperial Guardsmen and loyalist Space Marines while attempting to take control of Avarax. The mode launches with two sectors, with a third sector planned for a later update. The Space Wolves Champion Pack adds an armour set based on the Wolf Guard Battle Leader, including a Fenrisian storm shield usable with the Bulwark class. The Exorcists Chapter Pack is also being added to the Season Pass. It includes a helmet, pauldrons, gauntlets and breastplate featuring the Chapter’s distinctive purity seals and arcane script. Other content in the update is available for free. The update expands the wargear sharing system and adds a third equipment slot for capes, tabards and Iron Halos. Players can also unlock new items for Vanguard, Heavy and Assault classes through Ordeals. The developer has also outlined plans for additional weapons, Operations and a new Apothecary class in future updates. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.

A Heroic version of the weapon is also being added as the Power Maul. Heroic variants of the Power Axe and Auto Bolt Rifle are also available.
