AMD Surpasses $1 Trillion Market Valuation Amid AI Demand
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) achieved a significant milestone as its market value exceeded $1 trillion for the first time, driven by strong investor confidence in its role within the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. On September 21, AMD shares surged nearly 10%, reaching a peak of $615.52 during trading.
This milestone follows AMD CEO Lisa Su’s recent announcement that the company anticipates doubling its data center sales by 2027. The demand for computing power, particularly for AI applications, is a key factor in AMD’s growth trajectory.
Currently, AMD is experiencing a five-day winning streak, with its shares increasing approximately 25% during this period. Over the course of 2026, AMD’s stock has risen about 185%, significantly outperforming the tech-heavy Nasdaq, which gained roughly 15.8% in the same timeframe.
Despite a strong year, AMD’s shares faced a setback last month after the company reported second-quarter results that exceeded revenue and earnings expectations. Investors had hoped for a more optimistic outlook. AMD’s second-quarter revenue reached $11.54 billion, marking a 50% increase from $7.69 billion a year earlier, with its Data Center division contributing significantly to this growth at $6.7 billion, more than double the previous year’s figures.
Nvidia’s market value is above $5 trillion. AMD has also been expanding beyond selling individual chips. The company is increasingly offering complete systems that combine processors, networking equipment and other hardware as it competes with Nvidia in AI computing. Despite its rapid rise, AMD remains much smaller than AI chip leader Nvidia. AMD is widely seen as one of Nvidia’s closest rivals in graphics processing units used for AI computing.
