Apple 's long-rumoured smart home display finally has a name: The wider industry impact

Apple HomeView is expected at the Welcome Home event on October 13

The device, set to headline the company’s Welcome Home event on Tuesday, October 13, will be called HomeView, and buyers will have to wait until around mid-November to get one, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said the HomeView will run on an A18 chip and act as a Siri-powered command centre for homes built around Apple devices. Apple ‘s long-rumoured smart home display finally has a name. The countertop version sits on a metal speaker base and will come in space gray, silver, starlight and pink. The wall-mounted version has a flat, square base below the display and is limited to space gray and silver.

Apple is calling the lineup the Apple Home Collection, though the LG devices won’t arrive before later this year at the earliest. Apple is also filling out the rest of the home. Through a partnership with LG Electronics, it helped design a smart doorbell, a deadbolt lock, a thermostat, a temperature sensor, indoor and outdoor security cameras and a floodlight camera, which LG will manufacture and support. Schneider Electric is working with Apple on energy products for Europe. The HomePod mini, meanwhile, moves to an S10 chip and picks up new colours: pink, white, green, blue and midnight. The Apple TV gets an A19 chip, and Apple has tested built-in microphones for Siri plus a remote with a speaker, so it’s easier to find when it slips between sofa cushions.
