Facebook tests Reels-style full-screen video as it prepares new apps for sellers and creators

The video test is being announced as Facebook Marketplace reaches its 10th anniversary.

Alison said Marketplace was created after Facebook noticed people were already using Groups to buy and sell products. Facebook said the goal is to make selling easier for people who list large numbers of products. Facebook is also testing a new app called Seller, designed for people who sell frequently on Marketplace. The app brings several selling tools together in one place. These include: – AI-powered listing creation – A unified inbox – Inventory management – Performance insights The app will remain connected to Facebook, meaning sellers can continue reaching buyers and their communities through the same network. Under the test, some users will see full-screen video as soon as they open the Facebook app. The company’s Classic Feed will remain available as a second tab.

The move comes as Facebook marks 10 years of Marketplace and launches new tools for sellers, including a separate app called Seller.

The company said it will begin testing the video-first experience later this year, putting some users directly into full-screen video instead of the usual Feed. In a note by Tom Allison, Head of Facebook, Meta, the company said that it is also rolling out a free verification badge and bringing more AI tools to people who sell, create and build communities on the platform. Tom Alison said the company is working on a new experience for people who want more video on Facebook. People are showing us they want more immersive, visual, video-forward experiences, and video is where conversations are happening, communities are forming, and even commerce is starting to take place,” Alison said. “So later this year, we’ll begin testing a reimagined experience that puts a subset of people who we think want more video on Facebook into full-screen video the moment they open the app,” he added.

Meta-owned Facebook is testing a new full-screen video experience that could change what users see when they open the app. “Beyond evolving the tools for people who do things on Facebook, we’re also thinking about the experience for people who come to be entertained and connect with authentic creators.
