Jeff Bezos' has invested billions of his fortune into SpaceX rival: The wider industry impact

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has invested a staggering $30 billion of his personal fortune into rocket company Blue Origin since founding it in 2000, including a fresh $2 billion commitment as the company ramps up efforts to challenge SpaceX’s dominance in the commercial space industry, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Documents reviewed by the publication reveal the scale of the Amazon founder’s financial backing for Blue Origin, underscoring a long-term commitment that has helped transform the company into a major space player with around 15,000 employees and ambitious growth plans.

The latest $2 billion commitment from Bezos forms part of Blue Origin’s first-ever fundraising round involving external investors. The company has already secured $10 billion in the oversubscribed financing round, which values the company at approximately $140 billion, according to the report. Bezos, whose net worth stood at about $275 billion in late September according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, has previously sold Amazon shares to help fund Blue Origin’s expansion. Blue Origin generated about $800 million in revenue in 2025, according to the documents cited by the Journal. The company expects revenue to grow to roughly $1.4 billion this year before surging to more than $30 billion by 2030.

The company is betting heavily on future growth across rocket launches, satellite communications and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Part of that projected growth is expected to come from a satellite communications business that has yet to launch hardware into orbit, as well as a planned fleet of AI-focused satellites. Rocket launch services are also expected to contribute significantly to future revenue.

Blue Origin expects to narrow SpaceX’s lead with its New Glenn vehicles, according to the documents. Blue Origin faces competition across its business lines from other rocket operators and satellite and spacecraft companies, but especially from industry leader SpaceX.
