More than half of Indian households are missing hard-to-reach areas: The wider industry impact

The study, conducted among over 650 respondents across seven Indian cities, examines how Indians clean their homes, the challenges they face and what they expect from modern floorcare technology. 52% of respondents said spaces beneath beds and furniture are frequently missed during cleaning, while 48% reported difficulties cleaning corners, edges and skirting areas, according to the findings.

More than half of Indian households are missing hard-to-reach areas such as spaces under beds and furniture during routine cleaning, according to Dyson’s first ‘How India Cleans’ study. The survey also found that hair left behind on floors and dust quickly resettling after cleaning remain among the biggest frustrations for consumers.

72% of respondents said they also have carpets and rugs at home While hard flooring remains common. Other common surfaces include marble (51%), vitrified or ceramic tiles (49%), and granite (43%).

Commenting on the findings, Tim Hare, Design and Development Engineer, Floor Care at Dyson, said consumers increasingly expect vacuum cleaners to tackle multiple cleaning challenges in a single session, ranging from fine dust and long hair to different floor surfaces and hard-to-reach areas. The company said insights from the study help shape the development of future floorcare products by identifying real-world cleaning problems and unmet consumer needs. The study found that Indian households often feature a mix of flooring types that require different cleaning approaches. This diversity means consumers increasingly seek cleaning solutions that can move seamlessly across different floor types without compromising performance.
