Showroom owners said that the rising prices of gold and silver had slightly slowed down the pace of purchases. He said customers were showing interest in lightweight jewellery and small pendants. Kanpur: The jewellery market on Birhana Road and the utensil market witnessed a rush of customers on Dhanteras , with shoppers purchasing silver coins, jewellery and gold ornaments. He added that purchasing silver coins was considered auspicious on Dhanteras. He advised customers to check the hallmark on silver coins and buy them only from authorised showrooms to ensure the purity of the metal. On the occasion of Dhanteras, families performed evening prayers at home. Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesh, Lord Dhanvantari and Lord Yama were worshipped with sweets, flowers and lamps. Devotees prayed for prosperity, good health and happiness. In Bartan bazaar, customers preferred brass and copper utensils, which were later offered to Goddess Lakshmi after being filled with sweets as part of the traditional ritual. Download the TOI App.
However, they remained hopeful that customers would help the market surpass last year’s sales record.
Almost all jewellery showrooms were packed with visitors in the evening. Showroom owners expected the rush to increase further in the late evening, with shopping likely to continue till midnight.
