Trump said Ukraine needed a new president and later cliamed Putin appeared more interested in reaching a deal than Zelenskyy.
Reuters reported. In September, US secretary of state Marco Rubio announced that Putin had been invited to the summit, where he could meet US President Donald Trump and other world leaders. Zelenskyy also suggested that the G20 summit in the United States could provide an opportunity for the meeting, although he said no agreement had been confirmed by either Moscow or Washington.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that Moscow viewed the growing involvement of European countries in efforts to reach a peace settlement in Ukraine as a positive development. “We’ve invited President Putin to the G20,” Rubio said at a televised press conference following a meeting with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, according to The Guardian. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week that Washington was working to arrange a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States to discuss peace negotiations. But there has been no confirmation yet from Russia or from the United States,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
“Another possibility is for the meeting to take place in the United States during the G20 summit. Russia will review the US invitation for President Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 summit in Miami in December, but no decision has been taken yet, Kremlin spokesman said on Thursday.
