The FBI has acknowledged a cybersecurity breach involving the FBIJobs.gov portal, raising concerns over employee data security.
The FBI has confirmed a cybersecurity incident involving its FBIJobs.gov recruitment portal after a reported hack allegedly compromised information belonging to bureau employees. The incident comes after cybercriminal group ShinyHunters claimed it had breached the FBI’s recruitment infrastructure and accessed sensitive personnel data.
The bureau has not publicly confirmed the full extent of the data allegedly accessed. The Register reported that samples provided by ShinyHunters appeared to contain additional sensitive information, including Social Security numbers and emergency-contact details.
The FBI said the investigation is focused on determining whether the alleged intrusion occurred within its own enterprise systems or through a third-party provider connected to FBIJobs.gov. Reports said the allegedly exposed information may include names, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, job titles and other personal details.
