Virginia charity programme embezzlement ended in a four-year prison sentence for Linda Natelle Brown, a Texas woman who stole more than $1.5 million from the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, the officially sanctioned non-profit charity fundraising scheme for the state’s more than 120,000 government employees. She was sentenced on 13 May 2026 for taking money that donors had earmarked for charities of their choice. The thefts began in January 2019 and continued until August 2023, while she worked as the programme’s administrator.

Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia said the stolen funds went on personal spending rather than good causes.

Four years in prison and a $1,581,161 forfeiture order followed an investigation by three agencies

At sentencing, the court also entered a money judgment forfeiture order of $1,581,161, which requires Brown to give up that sum. The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Washington, District of Columbia, field office, the United States Postal Inspection Service Washington Division and the Office of the Inspector General of Virginia investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Avi Panth prosecuted it, assisted by former Assistant United States Attorney Kashan Pathan.
