Trump calls AI warnings a ‘HOAX’
On September 15, he wrote: “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades! Because of its potential economic impact, trump said he would not restrict the technology.
US president Donald Trump has dismissed warnings that artificial intelligence could threaten humanity, calling such concerns a “HOAX” and saying they are even less credible than what he described as the Russia and climate-change controversies. “The same people that said, ‘We’ll all be dead in twelve years because of Global Warming,’ a name since ‘reborn’ to Climate Change, because the Planet was cooling, not warming, and nobody was dead, are the people that are now saying that AI is going to kill us, that robots are going to attack us, and everything is a DISASTER,” he wrote. His comments come amid growing calls from technology leaders for greater oversight. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has argued for slowing the development of advanced AI, warning that a Chinese lead could pose a serious danger to the US and the wider world. China’s foreign ministry has rejected what it called fearmongering and urged cooperation on AI governance.
Trump has previously argued that US restrictions on AI could allow China to gain an advantage.
