US President Donald Trump said the technology should be referred to as “super intelligence”.
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said his administration would ban the term “artificial intelligence” in official documents, calling it inaccurate. He said the technology should instead be called “super intelligence”. “When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be,” Trump said.
Explaining the rationale, the order said advances in technology had outgrown the original framework used to describe artificial intelligence. The directive also gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to submit proposed legislation to Congress defining “Super Intelligence” under federal law and recommending corresponding changes to existing laws. The revised terminology is to be used in government correspondence, public communications, official websites, reports and administrative policy documents. However, existing regulations, government contracts, grants and historical archival records will not be changed retroactively. The proposed change marks a shift in the terminology the Trump administration wants federal agencies to use when referring to advanced technologies.
