Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday attacked the Congress for imposing the Emergency, saying, “1975 showed the country the difference between the rule of law and the ruler of law.”
Speaking at the 5th convocation of Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University in Lucknow, he said, “This is the same Uttar Pradesh where, on June 12, (1975) the high court annulled the election of the person occupying the most powerful office (of PM) in India. Yogi said UP since 2017 has transformed from mafia rule to the rule of law, creating a foundation for investment and development. Recalling the state’s image before 2017, he said concerns over law and order and connectivity had hindered investment.
And, in direct response to that Emergency was imposed across the country just 13 days later. ” The CM said, “1975 has shown the country the difference between the rule of law and the ruler of law. Your judgment and Dharma should be your charioteer,” he said, stressing that technology could assist legal professionals but could not replace human judgment. Drawing a parallel with the Bhagavad Gita, he said Lord Krishna imparted knowledge to Arjun but left the final decision to him. Urging law graduates to look beyond legal provisions and court cases, the CM said the strength of the legal system lay in public confidence. “The greatest asset of law is not its sections, but the trust of the common people,” he said, asking young lawyers to uphold truth, Dharma, impartiality and constitutional values and ensure that justice remained accessible to the poorest without discrimination.
Yogi also cautioned graduates against relying blindly on artificial intelligence in legal practice. “Make AI your assistant, not your charioteer. Similarly, AI could suggest solutions or draft documents, but the responsibility for decisions rested with human beings, Yogi added.
