Hyderabad : A gig driver allegedly refused to undergo a breathalyser test, created a nuisance and bit a constable’s finger after being stopped by police at MBNR Cross Roads in Chandrayangutta around 11 pm on Friday.
The rider was subsequently taken to the police station, where he was identified as Shaik Aziz (42), a resident of LB Nagar. His blood alcohol content (BAC) was found to be 140 mg/100 ml, against the permissible limit of 30 mg/100 ml. A case was registered against the accused under Sections 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty) and 292 (public nuisance) of the BNS.
He was arrested and later released after being served a notice by the police.
Chandrayangutta police said six traffic policemen, led by a reserve sub-inspector (SI), were conducting drunk-driving checks at MBNR Cross Roads when a two-wheeler rider travelling from Keshavgiri towards Bandlaguda was stopped by constable Sunil. The police said the rider appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, following which SI J Sridhar insisted that he take the test. When asked to undergo a breathalyser test, the rider allegedly refused to cooperate. “The rider started creating a nuisance on the main road. I immediately informed the main control room, following which Chandrayangutta law & order police personnel arrived at the spot and attempted to resolve the situation. However, the rider became aggressive, pushed me and attempted to snatch my body-worn camera. When our staff tried to restrain him, he also assaulted them,” the SI stated in his complaint.
