Bulandshahr : A 48-year-old retired Army man was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his younger brother following a quarrel over an abusive remark while the two were drinking in their ancestral village in Bulandshahr district on Saturday night.
The incident took place around 10.30pm in a cattle shed near their house in Karim Nagar Banboi village under Gulaothi police station. Police said Harendra Sirohi alias Bittu and his brother, Ravindra Sirohi, 41, also a retired Army officer, were drinking when Ravindra allegedly made an abusive remark against Harendra. Vikram, a resident of Narayan Garden on Rohta Road in Meerut, lodged a police complaint against Harendra, following which an FIR was registered against him under BNS section 103 (murder).
An argument followed and escalated into violence, with Harendra allegedly hitting Ravindra repeatedly on the head with the wooden leg of a cot, killing him on the spot, police said. Vikram Kumar, a relative of the deceased, told police that the brothers’ family lived in Meerut and that they had been staying in their ancestral place for the past two-and-a-half months to look after their agricultural land while visiting their families intermittently. Gulaothi SHO Dharmendra Kumar Sharma said Harendra had been sent to jail.
Ravindra’s last rites were performed on Sunday evening in the presence of police personnel.
