At Govt Rajaji Hospital (GRH), seven patients are undergoing treatment for dengue in a dedicated 40-bed ward. Madurai: With the arrival of the northeast monsoon, Madurai has witnessed a seasonal uptick in dengue and mosquito-borne illnesses. Govt hospitals across the city have been registering an average of three dengue cases and around ten viral fever cases daily.
Madurai corporation has recorded 38 dengue cases this month so far, a sharp rise from 20 cases reported in Oct last year.
A senior official said while there is no outbreak yet, the rising number has put the corporation on high alert and resulted in the stepping up of preventive measures. “We are actively working to curb vector-borne infections as well as water-borne diseases such as acute diarrheal diseases and leptospirosis, which typically surge during the monsoon and pose heightened risks to children and senior citizens,” the official said.
