Chennai: As many as 4,592 dengue cases have been reported within Greater Chennai Corporation limits so far this year, including 1,293 cases in Sept, said health secretary Darez Ahamed on Saturday. No dengue deaths have been reported in the city this year, he added.

The health secretary, who inspected dengue-control measures in the city, said that, so far, 16,254 dengue tests have been conducted. This comes as dengue cases across Tamil Nadu crossed 20,000 this year. GCC Commissioner GS Sameeran said the city had reported around 100 cases a day in Sept, but recorded 46 cases on Friday and 39 on Saturday.

Ahamed said seasonal variations had contributed to the rise, but cases were now declining. He said patient management was the health department’s priority. Fluid management is extremely critical,” he said. “Cases are gradually stabilising, but the dengue-control operations are going in full swing,” he said.

“Management is what is crucial for us. All fever cases must be tested. When fever decreases in dengue patients, we observe them closely, as that is a higher-risk phase.
