He said students from various regions who come to Mangaluru for education often face difficulties when allotted hostels located far from their colleges. Noting that students have been requesting accommodation closer to their educational institutions, he directed officials to ensure that hostel allotments take into account their academic needs and commuting convenience. He stressed that the departments must provide a conducive environment for quality education and ensure that accommodation-related issues do not hamper students’ academic progress. The MLA also directed officials to coordinate efforts to prevent the spread of malaria and dengue in Mangaluru city. Discussing the incidence of the diseases, he called for special attention to residential areas and locations inhabited by migrant workers, along with appropriate preventive and control measures. He asked the Ayush department to create greater public awareness about programmes such as Vayomitra, health camps and Ayurvidya, and ensure that their benefits reach more people through wider publicity and increased public participation. Expressing concern over the menace of stray dogs and dog-bite incidents, he directed officials to take preventive measures, particularly in residential neighbourhoods and around schools.
