Officials said that the action was taken considering the health hazard posed to the huge number of employees working in the unit owing to non-compliance with the instructions issued to the caterer’s firm.
Nashik : Ahilyanagar Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) suspended the canteen licence of an industrial unit employing over 2,000 workers after the operator failed to comply with the instructions of FDA officials with respect to maintaining hygiene on the premises and improving the quality of vegetables and other materials used for preparing food. Ever since Tukaram Mundhe took charge as the commissioner of Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration, there have been a large number of inspections at several establishments. In Nashik, too, the rate of inspections at food outlets as well as canteens has increased remarkably under the guidance of FDA joint commissioner Mangesh Mane. Senior FDA officials in Ahilyanagar stated that during a routine inspection about a fortnight ago, district food inspectors found several violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act at the industrial unit’s canteen. A few days ago, food inspectors under the guidance of assistant commissioner Gaurav Jagtap again visited the industrial unit and found that no steps had been taken by the canteen operator to improve services.
