KSTDC-operated double-decker ‘Ambari’ bus during the Dasara festivities in Mysuru
Bengaluru: More than 30,000 passengers have hopped on Ambari double-decker tourist buses in just 10 months, making the open-top service a clear hit with visitors and residents alike. The hop-on, hop-off service by the three Ambari buses marked the return of double-decker buses to the city’s streets for the first time since 1997. Each bus carries 40 passengers, 20 on the air-conditioned lower deck and 20 on the open-top upper deck. Modelled on London’s iconic red double-deckers, the buses run from 10am to 5.30pm. A full-day ticket is priced at Rs 180 per person and can be booked on kstdc.co.in or bought at Ravindra Kalakshetra. They have been hired about 20 times for photo shoots, celebrations and even weddings, the official said.

A senior KSRTC official said the response has been encouraging. The buses, which operated city tours for Dasara in Mysuru, are back in Bengaluru. The route begins at Ravindra Kalakshetra and passes through Corporation Circle, Hudson Circle and Kasturba Road to reach Visvesvarayya Museum. It then continues to Chinnaswamy Stadium and General Post Office (GPO), ending at the high court and Vidhana Soudha. Passengers can get off at designated stops and reboard the bus several times through the day. People from all age groups have been taking the ride. Given the demand, officials are considering extending the sightseeing route to MG Road . However, no new buses are planned for now. The buses found takers as a rental option on a per-day basis. The rent costs around a lakh for a few hours. Download the TOI App.
