The 40-million-litre-per-day (MLD) facility, planned behind CMP College, will start automatically when the water level rises and drain accumulated rainwater, reducing dependence on manually deployed pumps. The project has been estimated at Rs 20.37 crore and will be executed by Construction and Design Services (C&DS). The agency has invited tenders for the project, with Nov 12 being the last date for submission of bids. Technical bids will be opened at 4 pm the same day.

Prayagraj: Sangam city is set to get its first automated pumping station to tackle prolonged waterlogging in several low-lying areas during heavy rainfall.

However, the overall project is scheduled for completion in 2028, according to officials. Stay updated with the latest Prayagraj news. The move comes against the backdrop of severe waterlogging witnessed during the August rains, when Allahabad High Court took suo motu cognisance of the situation in the city. The court had summoned senior district and municipal officials and directed authorities to drain water from low-lying areas through Mori Gate, Daraganj, besides seeking details of long-term drainage plans for Prayagraj. The tender conditions stipulate that construction must be completed within 10 months of award of the contract, including work during the rainy season. The proposed facility is expected to benefit residents of Georgetown, Tagore Town, Chhitpur and Sohbatia Bagh, among other localities that regularly face waterlogging after intense spells of rain. Under the project, a network of drains will be developed to collect rainwater from waterlogging-prone areas and carry it to the pumping station. The new drains will be linked with the existing street drainage system, allowing accumulated water to be channelled towards the facility. From there, the water will be discharged into Ganga through Mori Gate.
