A seven-year-old boy from Najibabad, Bijnor, was reportedly killed by a leopard after he became separated from his elder brother while returning home from playing. The child’s body was discovered in a nearby farm on Thursday morning, a day after he was reported missing. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials said this was the fourth fatal leopard attack in Bijnor this year, taking the number of deaths in leopard attacks in the district to 38 since Jan 2023. A forest team led by ranger Ram Kumar sent the body of Aniket Kashyap for post-mortem and set up a trap cage near the site, while a search operation was launched to track and capture the leopard. Officials said human-animal conflict increases during the monsoon as waterlogging in fields pushes big cats towards populated and drier areas in search of food and shelter. Villagers gathered in large numbers after the incident and protested against the forest department, demanding more forest patrols and additional cages at vulnerable locations. Aniket’s father, Bhudev Kashyap, drives an e-rickshaw in Khushalpur Madka village, and Aniket was one of his three children.
