He allegedly created a fictitious female doctor profile on a well-known matrimonial website

In Nashik, the Ambad police have apprehended a 26-year-old man accused of orchestrating a sophisticated fraud scheme. He allegedly created a fictitious female doctor profile on a well-known matrimonial website and employed artificial intelligence voice-cloning technology to impersonate four different individuals. This deception led to the cheating of a local doctor and his father out of Rs 11.8 lakh. The use of AI in such scams highlights the growing sophistication of online fraud tactics.

Following a complaint filed on Aug 22, the police registered a case under sections of the BNS and the Information Technology Act. Investigations revealed that he is a habitual offender with existing criminal records and cases registered against him across Nashik, Latur, Mumbai, and various cyber police stations. During interrogation, police discovered that Chavan had targeted highly educated doctors, engineers, and non-resident Indians (NRIs) using similar matrimonial scams. Further investigation into the extent of his frauds is currently being conducted by PI Avinash Nadwinkeri.

He was on Monday produced before a city court, which remanded him to four days of police custody, said Nadwinkeri.
