Agra : Four members of an interstate gang allegedly running a fake job recruitment call centre were arrested in Agra for cheating job seekers on the pretext of offering them jobs as security guards and supervisors, police said on Sunday.
Officers recovered 10 mobile phones, 32 bank passbooks, 28 ATM, debit and credit cards, eight SIM cards, seven Aadhaar cards, six PAN cards, two voter ID cards and other material from the accused. Tarun has a previous criminal case registered against him at Kotwali Hathras in 2021, officers said. A case has been registered at Tajganj police station under BNS sections 318(4), 338, 340(2), 336(3), 61(2), 111(3) and 111(4) and Section 66(D) of the IT Act.
Investigators said they advertised vacancies on social media in the name of a company that did not legally exist and collected money from applicants in stages. The DCP said the accused told investigators they had been operating from the place from where they were arrested for around two years and had allegedly been involved in cybercrime from different locations for the past five years. The money was collected through several bank accounts and merchant QR codes. Investigators identified two of the accused as Ajay Kumar , a resident of Kherai Mor on Shamshabad Road in Agra, and Tarun, a resident of Kherai Mor-Maruti City Road. Ajay is originally from Jaunpur, while Tarun is a native of Saran district in Bihar. The two women arrested were not named in the police press note.
The accused were arrested from Taj Nagri Phase-I on Saturday night following a tip-off.
