Prayagraj : Railway Board has decided to permanently increase the number of coaches in mail and express trains across all zonal railways, including North Central Railway (NCR), in a move aimed at easing overcrowding and reducing waiting lists.
NCR Expands Train Capacity Ahead of Festive Season
The Northern Central Railway (NCR) is set to enhance its train services by adding coaches to certain trains, following a recent directive. This expansion will be executed in phases, aiming to alleviate passenger congestion during the busy festive season.
Trains currently equipped with 20 coaches will be increased to 24 coaches, while those with 22 coaches will receive two additional coaches. This capacity boost could allow up to 144 extra passengers to travel on a train with two additional AC three-tier coaches, or up to 160 more with two added sleeper coaches.
NCR’s chief public relations officer, Shivam Sharma, stated that the phased addition of coaches is expected to significantly reduce waiting lists for tickets. Currently, the Prayagraj Express is the only train operating with the enhanced capacity of 24 coaches under NCR.
Among the major NCR trains currently running with 22 coaches are the Prayagraj-Lalgarh Superfast, Subedarganj-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Jammu Mail, Subedarganj-Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur Express, Prayagraj-Ahmedabad Superfast, Prayagraj-Bhiwani Junction Kalindi Express, Prayagraj-Dr Ambedkar Nagar and Prayagraj-New Delhi Humsafar. The Kanpur-New Delhi Shram Shakti Express currently operates with 23 coaches and may also benefit from the capacity augmentation plan. Stay updated with the latest Prayagraj news.
