Tribal community members agitating for safety of the students in schools
Safety Review Initiated After Snakebite Deaths of Students in Gadchiroli
In a tragic incident, three girl students lost their lives due to a snakebite at a residential ashram school hostel in Gadchiroli. In response, the tribal development department has mandated a thorough safety review of government-run ashram schools across the region. Consequently, authorities in the Kalwan project area of Nashik have begun intensive inspections to assess safety measures and prevent future incidents.
As part of the drive, the administration has activated its “School Guardian Officer and Staff” scheme under which officers and employees have been assigned specific ashram schools for direct monitoring. Under the system, designated guardian officers must stay overnight at their allotted schools for five consecutive days between the 5th and 10th of every month to assess conditions on the ground. To ensure accountability, guardian officers must submit monthly reports with geo-tagged photographs documenting meals, cleanliness and school activities.
