Kolkata: A team of seasoned conservators — veterans of tiger conservation, cheetah reintroduction and landscape-scale wildlife management from top bodies — will oversee the tiger reintroduction project in Alipurduar’s Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR). Buxa will become the country’s 13th tiger reserve to take up such a reintroduction project. National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has set up a panel that includes Rajesh Gopal, secretary general of Global Tiger Forum (GTF) and chair of Project Cheetah steering committee; Soumitra Dasgupta, former head of Bengal’s forest force and a director of International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA); and wildlife scientist Qamar Qureshi, formerly with Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
