Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will carry out a revamp of Raosaheb Patwardhan Park in Bandra (West) at a cost of Rs 4.23 crore.
Public representatives have earlier complained about the condition of the park. A proposal regarding the same will be presented before the Standing Committee for approval on Wednesday.
The lowest bidder is H&H Associates, which quoted 34.66% below the official estimate. “No renovation or beautification work has been undertaken after 2017. Bandra residents had opposed the BMC’s plan to construct an underground parking lot at the nearly 15,000-sq-metre Raosaheb Patwardhan Park on Linking Road, Bandra (West).

Local corporator Swapna Mhatre, who demanded a revamp of the park, said she has been demanding the renovation and repair of the park for quite some time. Citizens have been demanding the same,” said Mhatre. A BMC H-West ward official said the RCC bridge in the park had become dilapidated and that other works too had to be carried out.
The work includes construction of the main entrance, removal of the existing dilapidated RCC bridge, repair of the protective wall at necessary places, maintenance of the yoga shed, repair of the toilet and stairs, installation of children’s play equipment and information boards, benches, and landscaping works. The plan also proposes repair of the security room, replacement of grills where necessary, construction of a cobblestone footpath, repair of the existing footpath, repair of the mud path, and installation of open exercise equipment. A tender was floated by the BMC Garden Cell, which is carrying out the work. The condition of the park has been deteriorating, including the washrooms and water tank. From renovating the pathway to upgrading the drain system and improving the jogging area, besides seating arrangements and gym equipment, various works, including horticulture-related works, had to be carried out. Following the resistance to the construction of an underground parking lot at the park, which is a popular recreational space for citizens, the civic body was forced to shelve the plan to construct the parking lot.
