Lucknow: High drama unfolded outside the legislators’ residential complex at Darulshafa in Hazratganj on Monday when a 30-year-old man climbed a tower and threatened to end his life, alleging that he had been assaulted and falsely implicated in criminal cases.
Ankur alleged that he was assaulted on May 28 and that several cases were later registered against him. He also alleged that ₹5,000 was taken from him before cases were lodged against him.
Even after lodging a complaint over death threats, the accused was not arrested, according to him. Police said two bottles containing nearly two litres of petrol were found in his possession, raising concerns that he may have intended to harm himself. Authorities said Ankur’s allegations are being verified.
The man, identified as Ankur Singh , a resident of Rampur Janak village under Baba Bazaar police station in Ayodhya , had come to Lucknow seeking action on his complaints. He remained atop the tower for a considerable time despite repeated efforts by police personnel to persuade him to come down. He claimed that despite approaching authorities, his grievances were not addressed. After prolonged negotiations, a fire brigade team used a hydraulic platform to reach him. Fire personnel Sanjay, Chandresh Yadav and driver Jhabbu Ram were part of the rescue operation.
