UPI payments on Lava feature phones via PhonePe
The domestic smartphone brand has introduced the service on select models starting with the Lava A7 Torch (2026). The PhonePe app will be available on the Lava A7 Torch (2026), followed by the Lava A2 Smart by the end of September.
Lava said it will also integrate the feature into other models in its feature phone portfolio. Lava feature phone users can now make UPI payments through the PhonePe app. The feature uses the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) UPI 123PAY technology, which allows UPI transactions without an internet or mobile data connection.
How UPI payments work on Lava feature phones
The system uses SMS-based connectivity for transactions, according to Lava. The service is based on UPI 123PAY, which is designed to enable digital payments on feature phones without requiring an internet connection. Users can register their bank account with the service and set up a UPI PIN. Once registered, they can use the PhonePe application on the supported feature phone to make UPI payments.
